Learning Reflection (7th) of Seminar in English Language Teaching Course

 
  
   From last week, teacher gave the text which was a research about the Factors Effecting English Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. For today, teacher assigned everyone in my class to think about The factors that effect to English teaching by writing mind mapping. After that, changed the opinion and ideas with friends in my class. For me, I divided the factors that effect to English teaching into 3 parts. First, about the teacher, students and Learning Environment. 
     First about teacher, the affecting has many components as follow: Teaching method, teaching experience, relationship between teacher and students, appropriate contents for students, rules of learning, and etc. Second about the students, the components that effect to students such as background knowledge, learning motivation, mood and emotion, learning attitude, learning style, etc.
And the third, learning environment that effect in learning such as the large class, atmosphere in classroom, interaction between teacher and students, time management, etc. 

   From the research I learnt that:
1. The goal of Language teaching and learning "when selecting learning activities, we must always remember that our goal is for the students to be able to interact freely with others: to understand what others wish to communicate in the broadcast sense, and to be able to convey to others what they themselves wish to share." Rivers (1987)
2. The results from the class observations indicated there were many problems affecting the quality of English teaching and learning as follows; the teachers' teaching styles and methods, teachers' classroom management, teachers' investment for teaching , and students' abilities and attitude.
3. The conclusion
  The de-motivating factors of English language teaching are related to: teachers' uninteresting teaching style and ineffective teaching methods; the lack of time, teachers' limited skills in time and class room management, large class size, unequal students' English abilities, inadequate investment for lesson preparation, teachers' limited use of teaching aids and technology and students' lack of confidence. These factors are affecting in English teaching and learning.

   Finally, I learnt about the factors that affecting in English teaching and learning. I don't think about some problem will happen in classroom such as unclear language in classroom will make a problem and effect to students in classroom.  And I will apply with my classroom in the future.
